2005
Cytronex is born - Mark Searles begins development of British electric bike technology with the aim of producing the first electric bikes to look like standard bicycles. This is the original Cytronex Logo.
2008
The world’s first ebikes with disguised assistance produced with Cytronex assistance at our base in Elm Road, Winchester. The NiMh battery pack is disguised as a water bottle – an idea conceived by Mark Searles and not previously seen on electric bikes. The core bikes were supplied for conversion by Trek Bikes. 2009
Cytronex launches the world’s lightest ebike – weighing just 13.6Kg - this would be considered a very light ebike even today! This marks the start of our long association with Cannondale. The photo shows, what was then the world's lightest electric bike - the Cytronex Cannondale Capo - ridden by TV presenter, Suzi Perry on Channel 5's popular TV program - The Gadget Show.
2009
Cytronex produces an ultra lightweight ebike for the Gadget Show. Pro cyclist Russel Downing Takes on Presenter Ortis Deley on the Cytronex Cannondale Super Six, in the Gadget Show Hill Climb Challenge. They race up Holme Moss, one of the key hills on the Tour of Britain.
2010
The Gadget Show's Hill Climb Challenge race proves so popular that it is featured on the big screen in their live show at the National Exhibition Centre. Development work on a Cytronex self-fit conversion begins in earnest.
2013
2016
The ground breaking Cytronex C1 kit is launched, achieving many accolades and a total of 7 patents granted, including our unique gear tooth sensor which provides near instant response and replaces all 3 sensors required by other road legal ebike conversion kits. A giant leap in ebike conversion kits! The photos shows our stand at the UK's Cycle Show.
2019
First Brompton kits launched. Cytronex becomes the highest rated electric assistance for Brompton, eclipsing Brompton’s own purpose built ebikes – “Sorry Brompton, but it knocks yours straight out of the ring” (quote from Brompton specialist - AtoB Magazine).
2021
Cytronex becomes the first conversion kit to receive an ebike of the Year award.
2024-25
Cytronex premises extended to increase production.
2025
New Thru-axle kits launched accommodating bikes with a rear cassette having up to 12 speeds.
